SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — A San Jose homicide victim was slain while he was trying to protect a woman from being attacked, according to the victim’s loved ones. Raymond Orozco, 22, was stabbed to death outside of a downtown San Jose nightclub on July 19, sources said. Police said the stabbing happened just before 1 a.m. on South Second Street. “In a true faith of character of what amazing person Raymond was, he died while trying to protect and stop a woman from being beaten,” a GoFundMe page states. “Raymond was a kind soul. Raymond was taken from us far too soon in a senseless act of violence that has left their family, friends, and community in shock and deep grief.”

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Investigators believe a fight may have led to a fatal stabbing in downtown San Jose over the weekend, and the incident may have been recorded on video, police said. Officers responded at around 12:51 a.m. Sunday to the 90 block of South Second Street following a report of a stabbing, according to the San Jose Police Department. They found a man suffering from at least one stab wound. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died. His identity has not been released. Police said the suspect fled the scene.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The family of a 22-year-old East Bay man says he was fatally stabbed in downtown San Jose early Sunday while trying to protect a friend who was being attacked. Raymond Orozco was found with stab wounds around 1 a.m. near South 2nd Street and East San Fernando Street, according to San Jose police. Officers and paramedics performed life-saving measures before he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. "He was a peacemaker, he wasn’t a hot head," said his mother, Daniella Ruiz. Orozco was her youngest and only son. "Raymond’s been joy from the minute I had him," she said. Orozco had gone out that night with his cousin and two female friends, his family said. One of the women in their group was allegedly being beaten up, when Orozco stepped in to help. "My understanding is the person who was being beat up is one of the people that came with him," said Roy Orozco, the victim’s father. "And with Raymond, if he considers anybody a friend, he’s gonna protect them. That’s what he was doing."

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The family of the man who was stabbed to death in downtown San Jose Sunday morning is sharing their story. They say 22-year-old Raymond Orozco was killed while trying to defend a woman who was being attacked. And days later, no one has been arrested. "She took more than just some guy, some random guy at a club. She took my heart." For Daniela Ruiz and Roy Orozco, this week has been one of unimaginable tragedy. Orozco says Raymond had gone out with his cousin and two female friends Saturday night. But when one of the women in his group was allegedly attacked, Raymond stepped in and was stabbed. "It's not like he was hurting somebody. He was just trying to pull people off of somebody else. For somebody to pull a weapon on somebody unarmed like that is beyond ridiculous," Orozco said. Orozco's parents say their son had a kind heart and was someone who was always looking to help others. They tell us he worked at a group home for seniors with physical and developmental disabilities, and had recently been accepted into Chabot College's Fire Academy.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- An East Bay family is hoping for an arrest in the fatal stabbing of their 22-year-old son. Last weekend, Raymond Orozco was killed while trying to stop a fight between his female friend and another woman.
On Saturday, family and friends held a vigil at Lake Merritt to remember his life. Just after 7 p.m., Orozco's family launched balloons signed with personal messages over Lake Merritt in Oakland. It was a chance for his mother to say goodbye to her only son. "The balloons -- we don't know where they are going. We are just letting them go, releasing them. I believe Raymond will get one of those balloons," said Daniela Ruiz, Orozco's mother. Last weekend, Orozco's was out with friends late night in San Jose. A female friend was allegedly attacked by another woman. Orozco tried to break up the fight when he was stabbed to death. "I'm grateful that he was never tainted. You know, he never carried any bad with him. He carried the good. Because my little brother was so good," Raymond's sister Sabrina told the crowd. His sisters shared memories and photos. Among those in attendance were Orozco's coworkers. He worked at a group home for seniors with physical and developmental disabilities. He was going to start the fire academy in the fall.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Two young women have been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a 22-year-old man last month, San Jose police announced on Wednesday. Micaela Van, 18, and Mercedes Rosales, 20, both of San Jose, were taken into custody for the July 20 homicide of Raymond Orozco, 22, who family members told KTVU had stepped in to protect a female friend. San Jose police said Rosales was booked for murder and Micaela was booked as an accessory to murder, but it wasn't immediately clear if the district attorney had charged the young women yet. Efforts to speak with the women or contact their attorneys were not immediately successful on Wednesday morning. Their relationship to Orozco was not revealed, and neither was a motive. San Jose police said police were called out to the 90 block of South Second Street just before 1 a.m. after someone was reported being stabbed.
